Making Mandalas

Making Mandalas

The materials we used:
Black thick marker, watercolor paints and sandwich wrap

Process:
For this art project, I asked students to start their mandalas with a circle in the middle of the paper using their black sharpie and explained how the circle can represent the earth and what they mean/represent to different cultures.  Then, they drew 4 cardinal lines and 4 more between each of those and through several examples I gave on the board, I showed them how to expand their mandala by repeating the patterns all the way around, keeping it symmetrical and unified.  I encouraged them to make it as big as their paper and make it grow bigger and bigger til they had no more room left.

Great art project for learning about cultures
